Our Guide to Personal Insurance

Insurance

Although mortgages are our field of expertise, we also offer a range of insurances such as life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection, these are the main three people tend to opt for, we also offer private medical insurance policies. You will need to complete a medical history form with your financial adviser.

If this is something you are looking for then read on for more information. We will review the different providers that we have access to and compare quotes, this will enable us to find the most suitable policy for you, this is the process for all types of cover. Any pre existing medical conditions will be assessed by underwriting and may effect your monthly premiums.

The application process can include a medical exam, we will take your personal details even if this is joint cover. With certain insurances in place, if a person passes the policy pays out to your chosen beneficiary or next of kin.

Life Insurance Policy

Life insurance will give your family members peace of mind at the time of your passing when it comes to sorting out your finances. Life insurance policies will pay out a tax free lump sum payment if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness and in the event of your death. We can set your policy up in single or joint names, and you also choose how long you would like the cover amount to be for and the amount you want to be covered up to.

Life cover isn’t something you need but it is beneficial to have, we will do a quick medical screening with you over the phone or face to face, whichever you feel most comfortable with, this consists of a range of questions regarding your health and lifestyle.

You will be covered for a range of illnesses which can vary ever so slightly with different providers. If you are looking for a joint policy we can do this for you, if you prefer separate policies they will also work the same.

If you add critical illness cover to your policy you will be covered for more illnesses. This helps family cover everyday living expenses or pay off a mortgage if you are no longer around.

Critical Illness Cover

Critical illness cover can be taken out at the same time as your life insurance policy at an additional cost, they will run alongside each other, this just means that you will be covered for more severe or long-term illnesses that life insurance may not cover.

For this type of policy to pay out they will assess the severity of your diagnosis and you will only be covered at a certain stage of your illness for it to be deemed a serious illness.

The illnesses this type of insurance covers are:

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Cancer
  • Permanent disability
  • Benign brain tumour

The insurance provider will use specific definitions to explain at what point you will be covered; these must be met with your circumstance at the time for them to consider the claim. There are some providers that will offer lower monthly payments if you have a healthier lifestyle.

LTC Mortgages are here to discuss your options with the information you provide, we will find you the best policy to suit your situation. We will go through what’s best for you. We will review any existing policies you may have and see if we can find you a cheaper or better deal that may include more coverage.

Income Protection Insurance

This type of policy is available to you if you have a medical condition or have been in an accident that has stopped you from being able to do your job due to ill health. If you are covered within your current employment, then we will factor this in when setting up your policy.

The last thing anyone wants is to fall behind on their bills when recovering from an illness or injury, this will give you the financial protection you need. You will still receive a regular income and help you cover any financial commitments.

For example, in some jobs you can receive 6 months full pay 6 months half pay if you are off work long term, or if you receive your full or part of your income for the first 3 months we will set your policy to start after this period, this means that your bills will still be paid.

Private medical insurance

Private medical insurance covers conditions that you are diagnosed with after your policy begins, you are covered for medical costs linked to your illness. There are different levels of cover available that come with different premiums, this can range from basic cover to everything being covered. The cost of private cover varies with each policy, the higher your excess the more your insurance will pay out for.

You will also make a contribution to the cost of the private treatment, this is called the ‘excess’, you can decide the amount of excess you wish to pay, this will determine the amount of cover you receive.

The cover usually includes:

·        The cost of hospital admission

·        Diagnostic tests, such as MRI and CT scans

·        Surgery

·        The costs of seeing a consultant

·        Hospital accommodation and nursing care

·        Cancer medication - some polices will include drugs that are not available on the NHS

The cover may also include:

·        Outpatient consultations

·        Mental health treatment options

·        Physiotherapy and chiropody

We will weigh up all your options when choosing a policy that best suits your needs and wants so that you have the amount of cover you wish to have based on your current circumstances.
